Pentecost - May 31st, 2009
Believed to be the oldest feast in the Church, the story of Pentecost dates back to the first century. The feast originated from the Jewish Feast of Weeks, which occurs 50 days after the Passover (Deuteronomy 16:10). According to Jewish tradition, the Ten Commandments were given to Moses 50 days after the first Passover, which freed the Hebrews from their bondage in Egypt. As the Hebrews settled into Canaan, the feast became a time to honor the Lord for blessing the fruits of their labors. At the time of Jesus, the festival focused on rabbinical law and traditions. According to Scriptures in the Book of Acts, the Church came into being on the day of Pentecost. As 120 worshipers, including the Disciples, were fasting and praying in an upper room in Jerusalem, the Holy Spirit descended upon them in a violent rushing wind that was heard throughout the city. Small flames of fire rested upon their heads, and they began to speak in other languages. As crowds came to investigate the commotion, the Apostle Peter spoke to them about Jesus and exhorted them to repent. From the crowd of Jews and converts, 3,000 realized the truth of his words and became followers of Jesus.

Africa Univeristy Book Project
WILL YOU HELP??? The Project August 2009 is still in need of your books and help for the library shelves at Africa University at Mutare, Zimbabwe. The missions ministry is working hard to fill the Cargo Container with 10,000 books to help the missionary efforts in Africa.
The greatest need are text books for the students in the areas of college level, at least advanced level of high school, in Theology, Education, Agriculture and Natural Resources, Management and Administration, Humanities and Social sciences, Health Sciences, Peace, Leadership and Governance. Also, books of the "classics", the "Arts", or the "tried and true" books that provides world history in any other cultures. The text books should be no older than 10 years, while all the other books can be any age and or condition. The University is in need of resource books and we can help. If you know somebody who works and knows someone in a college, school, business(book store), library, or church that could help please direct them to us in the mission ministry. We will follow thru to get the books and or donation to support the project. We need cardboard boxes to hold the books. We can go get the books from the people or places where they are located. Of course the books can be brought to our Church or my office at 6309 Baltimore Ave, Riverdale (about 6 blocks from the Church) as the Cargo Container is located in the parking lot. I will pack and sort the books to go to Africa University. Thank you so very much. Peace and love, J D Williams, 301-779- 5050.
